　　Inadditiontotheacademicandsocialskillsthatthestudentsaredeveloping,staffendeavourtoexposethemtoabroadvarietyofexperiencesthatwillpreparethemforlifeinthewidercommunity.

　　ThePeerReadingTutorProgramhasbeenoperatingforsixyearsinitspresentform.ItisajointventureprogramwithPadstowTAFEintrainingYear10studentsastutorsforstudentsinloweryears.Thismeansthatitisnotonlyavolunteerprogramforthetutors,butalsoanaccreditedTAFEcoursethattheyareundertaking,successfulcompletionofwhichgivesthemacertificate.

　　Therearealsoatotalof16StudentRepresentativeCouncil(SRC)studentswhorepresenteachyeargroup.TheSRCmeetfortnightlytorepresenttheconcernsandideasofstudentsfromacrosstheschool.Fromthesemeetings,SRCstudentspractisetheirleadershipskillsbyaddressingissuesraised,aswellas,initiatingandparticipatinginfundraisingactivities.ThesefundraisingactivitiesincludeBandanaDay,WorldVisionDayandinvolvementinothercommunitybasedprograms.

　　VocationalEducationandWorkReadiness

　　CPHSstudentscontinuetobesupportedintheirpursuitofabroadcurriculumthatreflectsequityofopportunityinskillacquisition.TheschooloffersoneofthebroadestrangesofVocationalEducationTraining(VET)subjectsintheLikeSchoolGroup(LSG)area.

　　TheVETsubjectsofferedtoourseniorstudentsincludeConstruction,MetalandEngineering,InformationTechnologyandHospitality.Thebenefitsofstudyingthesecoursesaretwofold.Firstly,studentsareachievingworkplacecompetencieswhichcontributetowardtheachievementofthenecessaryskillsrequiredtoworkinthatindustry.Therefore,studentsgraduatewithanationallyrecognisedqualificationforadvancedentryintotheirTAFEcourse.Secondly,throughtheirtheoreticalstudiesandHigherSchoolCertificate(HSC)examination,aVETcoursecontributestothestudent‘sattainmentoftheirHSCandAustralianTertiaryAdmissionsRank(ATAR).

　　TheschoolfurtherendeavourstoprovidemanyreallifeprojectsforVETstudents.OurseniorConstructionclasseshavebeeninvolvedinarangeofschoolbasedprojectsthatallowthemtobuildonsubjectspecificcompetenciesandmakeapositivecontributiontotheirschoolthroughfirsthandexperiences.Oneofanumberofprojectsinvolvedstudentscreatingedgingonthenewlyexpandedteachers’carpark.Another,involvedstudentslayingconcreteunderthenewshadesailsoutsidetheschoollibrary.TheConstructionclassalsoworkedtogetherwiththeMetal&Engineeringclasstocompleteanupgradetothecomputerbenchesinoneoftheschool‘scomputingrooms.TheMetalandEngineeringclasswasadditionallyengagedinthefabricationandinstallationofnewweldingbaysandbenchesintheschool‘smetalsworkshop,whichthenbenefittedstudentsfromYear7toYear12.
