  TheCollegecatersforadiversestudentpopulation,withstudentscomingfromawidegeographicalarea. TheCollegehasastudentpopulationofaround1250students,includingapproximately70fullfee-payinginternationalstudentsenrollingeachyear.TheInternationalProgramaddsdiversityandsupportstheprovisionofabroaderacademiccurriculum.Thereare46nationalitiesrepresentedintheculturallydiversestudentpopulationandapproximately33%ofthestudentsspeakalanguageotherthanEnglishathome.TheESLprogramisvibrantandextensive. 10%offamiliesareinreceiptofEMA.

  TheCollegeregularlyperformsabovestateand‘likeschools’initsacademicoutcomes.ThisisreflectedbyexcellentVCEoutcomeswhichopenavarietyofpathwaysforstudentsbeyondschool. Over95%ofstudentsenrolintertiarystudiesattheendofVCE,withover60%attendinguniversityandaround25-30%movingontoTAFE. RegularparticipationofDoncasterSecondaryCollegestudentsinnationalandinternationalacademiccompetitions,aswellasregularinclusionamongstthePremier’sAwardsrecipients,isanotherreflectionofthehighqualityoutcomesachieved.

  WhilsttheCollegehasastrongacademicfocus,thereisarealandgrowingemphasisonmeetingthelearningneedsofallstudents. Thereisongoingandprominentattentiongiventotheroleofeachandeveryteacherinsupportingtheneedsofindividualstudentsandorganisationalemphasisisgiventoteamsofstaffworkingmorecloselywithparticulargroupsofstudents,especiallyinthemiddleyears.

  AstrongCollege-widestudentwellbeingfocusisledbyaStudentWellbeingLeaderandenhancedthroughsupportofaCollegeChaplain,Collegenursesandawidevarietyofcommunityprofessionals. TheCollegehas2sub-schools,Middle(Years7–9)andSenior(Years10–12),whichcaterfortheneedsofallstudentsandreinforceCollegevaluesandexpectations. TheSub-schoolsformthebasisofawell-definedstudentmanagementstructure.

  TheDiscoveryProgram,atYears7–9,focusesonstudentsaslearners,developingcompetenciesintheareasoflearning,emotionalintelligenceandsocialskills. TheskillsacquiredthroughtheDiscoveryProgramaretransferredtolearninginallcurriculumareasandequipsstudentsforlifebeyondtheCollege. TheprogramisbeingextendedtoYear10–12studentsin2011.

  Awiderangeofcurriculaandco-curricularactivitiesengageandprovideopportunitiesforstudentsatalllevels. Therearenumeroussportingopportunities,anexemplaryInstrumentalMusicprogramandaPerformingArtsprogramavailabletostudents.ThereisanextensiveStudentLeadershipProgramwithanactiveSRCandcaptainsinboththeSeniorandMiddleschools,aPeerMentoringProgramforstudentsinYears7,9and10andnumerouswellbeingprogramsoperatingthroughouttheyear.

  TheCollegealsooffersarangeofout-of-schoolopportunitiesforstudents,includingnationalandinternationalleadership,sportingandacademicopportunities,schoolcampsatYear7,9and11,andregularinternationalexperiences. NotonlyisthereacomprehensiveacademicVCEcurriculum,butstudentshaveaccesstoarangeofVETunitsboththroughtheCollegeandthroughtheMullumandVETclusterintheinnerEasternRegion,aswellastoVCALthoughbroadernetworklinks.TheLearningEnhancementandEnrichmentProgram(LEEP),beginningatYear7,providesopportunitiesforhigh-achievingstudentstolearnatarateanddepthmoreappropriatetotheiracademicstrengths,asdoestheaccelerationprogramavailabletostudentsinYears10to12. The‘MYSELF’(MiddleYearsSelectedEssentialLearningfortheFuture)ProgramatYear9,involvesallstudentsundertakingarangeofauthenticandintegratedprogramsforonedayperweekovertheyear. Manyoftheseprogramsinvolvestudentsworkinginthebroadercommunity.

  TheimportanceattachedbytheCollegetotheappropriateuseoflearningtechnologiestosupportstudentengagementhasbeenenhancedthroughtheprovisionoffederalfundsandisshownbytheongoingallocationofsubstantialresourcesforcomputerinfrastructure. Thepurchaseofnetworkhardwareandsoftware,theprovisionofhighqualitywirelesslinkednetworksthroughout,theestablishmentofareadilyaccessibleintranet,thedevelopmentofastudent-centricdatabase,theprovisionofcomputersataratioofbetterthan1:4acrossalllevelsandofelectronicwhiteboardsandfixeddataprojectors,areevidenceofthisfunding.Electronicrollmarkingwasintroducedin2009. TheCollege’scommitmenttostafftraininginrelationtotheimplementationoftheUltranetfurthersupportsthis.

  Since2007,newprogramsforstudentsandstaffhavebeendevelopedandimplementedinlinewiththeCollege'sStrategicPlan.The2006-2009Planhadamajorfocusonenhancing"teachereffectiveness"and"teacherteaming"withaviewtoongoingimprovementinstudentoutcomes. Thisreflectstheimportanceplacedondevelopingastudent-centredcultureandondevelopingthenecessaryteacherskillstoprovidepersonalised/differentiatedteachingtomeetthelearningneedsofindividualstudents. ThisemphasishasbeenunderpinnedbyPoLTandtheE5Frameworkandhascontinuedandisunderscoredinthe2010-2014StrategicPlan. Implementingaconsistentwholeschoolapproachtoteachingliteracy,developingbetterapproachestousingdatatoinformteachingandusingthistopersonaliselearningareintegraltothecurrentStrategicPlan. Staffhavemetregularlyinteamstoidentify,discussandimplementstrategiestoenhancetheireffectivenessintheclassroomandtobuildandsharebestpractice. Additionally,studentsinYears7and8aretaughtin75minuteperiodsbysmallteamsofteachersinhomeroomlocations.

  TheCollegeisproudofitsfacilitiesandgroundswhichareamongthebestintheStatesystem. CollegeCouncilhasstronglysupportedfacilitiesdevelopmentovertheyears,includingthefundingofexcellentVCEandPresentationandPerformanceCentres,themaintenanceofattractivegardenareasandtheprovisionofextensiverecreationspaces,somewithshadesails. CollegeCouncilcontinuestolooktoimprovingfacilitiesandiscurrentlyindiscussionswithManninghamCityCouncilandaprivateproviderinrelationtoanewstadium. In2008,theCollegewasfundedbytheDepartmentofEducationandEarlyChildhoodDevelopmenttocompleteamajorbuildingprogram. This,togetherwithassociateddevelopments,involvedspendinginexcessof$7.5million. Theworksinvolvedrefurbishmentandrebuildingofover60%oftheCollege. Renovationsincludedarefurbishedlibrary,refurbishedstudenttoilets,newsciencefacilities,newmulti-purposelearningareasandmiddleyearsprecincts,newrelocatableclassrooms,newwood/metaltechnologyfacilities,newICTfacilities,newart/textilefacilities,newadministration/staffareas,newgeneralpurposeclassrooms,furtherdevelopmentofgardensandgroundsandnewlyresurfacedplayingcourts.

  TheCollegeisanexcitingplaceforstudentsandstaff. Theongoingemphasisondevelopingastudent-focusedcultureandtheskillsnecessaryforpersonalisingteaching,theprovisionofabroadrangeofprogramsandopportunitiesforstudents,togetherwiththeexcellentfacilitiesandtheirongoingdevelopment,makeforaverypositiveenvironmentwhichattractsandsupportsbothstudentsandstaff.
